Amat susah nak cari warna selain merah.

Seminar Gimnastik 2010 – ‘Past, Present and Future’

Social Media For Sports Managements

The new trend today is social media or some call it as new media. Social Media is the use of the internet as the medium of relaying the message from host to clients. We had seen how this social media had help in our last 12th GE that causes the political tsunami. Social media too had helped to spread news in real time to anywhere in the world. Anything can be reported and published at the slowest rate of the internet connection. The emergence of the new media will change the way messages and information be disseminated.
In sports we have been taking technology into account. On the running track we have been using photo finish equipment to determine the winners. On competition arenas, technology too has been useful to decide points between the athletes and the era of manual scoring system will be obsolete just round the corner. Whether we like it or not, technology will definitely play an important role in sports.
In this post I am not going to write about those technologies but another area of technology, that is the internet and its vast opportunities of softwares and applications just at a mouse click.
I first started using the computer to print out results when I was the Chairman of the Results and Statistics Chairman of Persatuan Olahraga Amator Kedah (Utara) in the late 80s. That time internet was something unheard of even though there was something of online program in certain schools. I can’t remember what the program was but the use of telephone line and computers to publish education materials from Kuala Lumpur to schools with access to such facilities. I think that was in around 1983-1986. Well, that lead to Jaring and I can remember a program over RTM about this with Dr Awang Lah appearing explaining all about Jaring. Let leave that history behind as I am not that well verse about it.  Maybe you like to read more about history if internet in Malaysia HERE. or HERE.    .
The internet first used as a military communication system has made leaps and bound and to day is has been part of our daily lives. Nearly everybody depend on the internet in one way or another. So, why not engage in this new media for sports too.
imageIn this post I would like to write about the use of Social Media applications that can help sports activities. Among the popular social media applications are Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, Friendsters, Foursquare and Internet Forums for messaging facilities. Then we have Flickr, Picasaweb , Fotopages, Myphotoalbum, Picture Trail and photobucket to name a few.  Then we also have online storage applications such as scribd.com or skydrive.
All these mentioned apps can be use for sports managers either to relay instant and urgent messages, send reports, store pictures or store your files online and there are accessible anywhere in the world as long as there is internet connection.
What is Twitter?
According to Wikipedia, Twitter is a website which offers a social networking and microblogging service, enabling its users to send and read other users’ messages called tweets. Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters displayed on the user’s profile page and are publicly visible by default, however senders can restrict message delivery to their friends list. Users may subscribe to other author tweets—this is known as following and subscribers are known as followers.
All users can send and receive tweets via the Twitter website, compatible external applications (such as for smartphones).
Since its creation in 2006 by Jack Dorsey, Twitter has gained popularity worldwide and currently has more than 100 million users.[10] It is sometimes described as the “SMS of the Internet.”
Twitter too works with third party applications such as twitlonger for posting messages more than 140 words, twitpic and yfrog for posting pictures online. image image
