It has been circulating on media social about a heritage and historical site being demolished to make way for housing development. This is one site that has been detected, maybe there are more where some greedy housing and property developers who sees historical sites has no value compared to the money that they will gain after their projects gets done.

Lembah Bujang at the foot of Gunung Jerai in Kedah has been identified as one of the earliest civilization on Golden Chersoneses or the Malay Peninsular. It is believed to be earlier than the Malacca Sultanate. The news broke out (that I first read on social media) that A candi called Candi Sungai Batu in Lembah Bujang, Kedah was recently destroyed by a developer angering the Kedah state government, NGOs and netizens over the demolition of the candi that is known as site number 11.

The destruction of candi number 11, rebuilt on its original site back in the 1970s by an archaeological team, was chanced upon by a scholar who happened to be investigating the historical valley.

Image

Malay Mail Online post : Prehistoric ruins at an archaeological site in Bujang Valley some 1,200 years old were secretly demolished by a land developer, a Penang lawmaker said yesterday, even as Badan Warisan Malaysia seeks to list the historical spot as a Unesco world heritage site.

Free Malaysia Today : The chairman of NGO Bujang Valley Study Circle said the developer had now demolished the most famous 8th century temple remnants known as Candi Sungai Batu estate or Bujang Valley site 11.

Homebound Overland – ByRoadtoMalaysia

ImageA few days before I write this post, I was alerted by my relative who is working at the Consulate in Kunming about this Malaysian family’s homebound adventure who left Coventry city where they had been living for seven years and heading to Kubang Pasu in Kedah, where they originate.

Image

Only then I remembered that I had written a post about their challenge to come home overland on my blog HERE. You can visit their Facebook Page to read about their journey written by Sofinee, wife of Jamal Ismail, 44 who drives their campervan. Together on the journey are their four kids.

ImageClick on their Facebook Page to read the diaries of their journey and see beautiful pictures throughout their journey. The family is expected to reach Bukit Kayu Hitam on 14th December 2013. Well wishers can greet them at the border to congratulate the success of their feat to drive home overland on their 1998 Mercedes Sprinter motorhome, that has been their home since 13 July 2013.

MYPass for the convenience of travelling and shopping in Malaysia
MYPass for the convenience of travelling and shopping in Malaysia

I still remember when I visited Hong Kong in 2003 and 2004, I bought an Octopus Card to use while travelling on public transport and shopping at selected outlets and mostly I used it at 7 Eleven. Its very convenient especially for tourist since not much cash need to be carried around. Its a “domestic card” use besides the normal Credit or Debit Card.

Malaysia too is now moving toward using pre loaded plastic money for the convenience of both locals and tourists. Its the MYPass. Malaysia is quite lucky because the short form for Malaysia is MY and hence its means a lot to be the owner that shows personal.  MYPass can be purchased by tourist arriving at KLIA or LCCT and is also available at KL Central in the city. MYPass is sold at RM38.00 and preloaded RM10.00.

Malaysia Airlines – The Way I See It As A Passenger

Malaysian Airlines
Malaysian Airlines

I can’t remember when was the last time I fly on Malaysian Airlines (MAS) since my organization changed our travels to Airasia. It was in the mid 90s. Since then I had no opportunity to fly on MAS until recently.

Mot much changes on the outfit of MAS except with the addition of new plane to its fleet and changes on their body paints.

I saw this original MAS paintwork on one of their aircraft at Kuching airport with their original Wau Bulan Logo. It is a good idea to keep this original design as a nostalgic monuments in the history of Malaysia Airlines after their separation from Malaysia singapore Airlines in 1972

During my last flight to and fro Kota Kinabalu from KLIA I was ware the changes in crew attires and also the interior finishing of their new fleet pf boeing 737-800. I fly Malindoair to Kuching two weeks before and both on the same type of aircraft. MAS had changed from their batik motif seats to the leather look with tone of maroon (on the plan I was on) Not sure if all their 737-800 fleets has the same colouring.

Meals on board not much changes only that the present caterer is Brahim’s istead of MAS Catering. Well, is MAS Catering still in business? with Brahim’s, the Briyani Chicken was superb and the smell caught the nostrils immediately when the crew starts preparing to serve when the seatbelt sign was switched off. I did not take any pictures of the meal sets since there not much difference from the last.

Touch Screen facilities for your In Flight entertainment
Touch Screen facilities for your In Flight entertainment

When I was on Malindoair flight earlier I thought they had outsmart MAS but my thoughts was wrong. In fact maybe all Boeing 737-800 comes with inflight entertainment facilities.  So if your mobile gadget is running out of battery juice, just remember to bring along your USB cable to charge and of course its included in your airfare.

With the entertainment screen in front of every passenger, there is no more opportunity for SOME male passengers especially to voyeur on the cabin crew demonstrating the safety procedures. (LOL)

There’s a selection of entertainment to suit all passenger if not 100%. Movies, Music, Cartoon all in the package. There is also the Quran on screen if you want to read the Quran while in flight. Musics include most genres including Nasyid and after finishing The Heat acted by Sandra Bullock, I entertain myself with Nasyid number from Maher Zain. flying on MAS will now not be a boring one unless you want to doze off all the way.

FYI, I still keep this copy of Going Places, a special Wings of gold Commemorative Issue for 50th anniversary of Malaysia Airlines. I know it will be an antic publication many-many years to come and I will keep it for monetary purpose. I have two copies of the issue, but trying to locate where’s the other one.
