Miri City Fan, Sarawak
Sewaktu berada di Miri, satu-satunya tempat yang saya kunjungi ialah Miri City Fan. Taman awam ini mengambil nama sempena bentuknya yang seperti kipas jika dipandang dari udara.
Taman ini merupakan satu-satunya kawasan yang boleh dijadikan tempat untuk beriadah bagi penduduk Miri kerana kawasannya yang agak redup dan laluan yang merentasi seluruh kawasannya. Di samping itu terdapat juga tepak refleksologi untuk membolehkan pengunjung mengurut tapak kaki dengan berjalan di atas batu-batu yang disusun untuk tujuan itu.
Miri City Fan menempatkan juga Kolam renang awam dan Pustaka Miri.
Taman ini telah rancang sebegitu rupa untuk mengandungi taman-taman mengikut tema yang khusus. Taman-taman yang ada ialah seperti Islamic Garden yang mempunyai ciri-ciri keIslaman. Chinese Garden pula bercirikan budaya Cina.

Tapak refleksologi ini terdapat di Health Garden. Pengunjung boleh berjalan tanpa kasut untuk meransang titik-titik di telapak kaki yang mewakili organ-organ dan pada tubuh manusia. Urutan refleksologi menggunakan konsep urutan tapak kaki ni.

Salah satu bentuk ukiran yang diabadikan pada salah sebuah binaan tempat berteduh di dalam kawasan Miri City Fan.
Replika pasu tembikar Sarawak. Pasu adalah merupakan identiti negeri Sarawak. Bagi pelancung yang melawat negeri ini seolah-olah tidak lengkap jika tidak membeli pasu Sarawak sebagai oleh-ole. Replika pasu ini terletak di Botanical Ethnic Garden.
Masjid Al Taqwa, Miri merupakan mesjid utama di bandaraya Miri. Berpeluang sembahyang Maghrib berjemaah dan sembahyang Jumaat di sini.

MH 2593 MYY-KUL
After five days in Miri its time to go home. My flight was MH 2593 on MAS. I had requested earlier for seat 27A which is on th portside. If you on one of the lucky flight between East Malaysia and West Malaysia, you will have the opportunity to see the Natuna Islands along the way. Natuna belongs to Indonesia and I was surprised that there inhabitants on the island in the South China Sea since its quite far away from Jakarta. Pictures in this blog was taken while on flight except the full aerial view of the island (right) which was downloaded from the net.

Labuan and Miri Trip
I will be in Labuan again from 24-28 Jun 2007. This will be my second time this year I visit Labuan. Hoping I can write more about Labuan, something different from what I wrote in my last blog.
Then after Labuan I will fly to Miri on 1st of July and will be there till 6th July 2007.

Free WiFi Access in Miri
Murtabak Di Miri
Sampai di Miri jam 1.30 tengahari dan menginap di Dynasty hotel. Waktu itu pihak hotel belum disediakan makan tengahari. So, selepas check in, aku Dr. B dan Fa keluar untuk mencari kedai makan. Punyalah susah. Berjalan hampir setengah jam tak jumpa-jumpa juga kedai makan. Memang di Sarawak ni susah sikit nak cari kedai makan untuk orang Islam. Aku telah sampai ke Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu di Sarawak ini. Memang susah sikit nak cari kedai makan yang meyakinkan halalnya. Mungkin bagi penduduk tempatan ianya tidak begitu sukar tetapi sebagai pengembara susahlah sikit. Macam masa aku pergi Amerika dahulu, sepanjang 6 hari di sana, hanya sekali sahaja jumpa nasi. Begitu juga kali pertama sampai Hong Kong. Hari akhir baru jumpa; tu pun harganya HK 75.00 yang merupakan satu pinggan nasi, seketul ayam kari dan satu tin Coke.
Balik ke Miri ini, kedai makan bukan tak ada tetapi rasa was-was sikit. Orang Sarawak jangan marah. Bagi seorang Islam, makan-minum adalah merupakan perkara yang paling dijaga. Pernah ingat masa zaman muda dahulu sewaktu bertugas di Kota Marudu, Sabah, ada sekor ayam masuk rumah. Tak tahu ayam siapa. Aku dan kawan-kawan ambil keputusan untuk tangkap sahaja. Pendek kata curilah ayam tu. Walaupun ayam curi, kami sembelih sebelum masak dan makan. Tengok……
Jalan hampir setengah jam. Bila jumpa kedai, mereka dalam proses mencuci dan hendak tutup. Last-last jumpa one kedai yang sedang bersedia nak buka – Ming Cafe. Ada nasi tetapi masa sampai nasi belum masak, baharu lauk sahaja yang tersedia. Yang ada hanya murtabak. Jadi kami pesan murtabak saja. Murtabak pun mengenyangkan juga. Bulan puasa murtabak adalah hidangan wajibku setiap kali hendak berbuka.
Di Ming Cafe, sebiji harga RM3.50. Kira tebal juga. Alamak, aku makan tak habis pula.

Pictures taken from my room. During my stay the morning are quite hazy but is a bit clear from noon onward. However the sky is not so clear as the picture of the sun shows that the hace turn it inot just a bright ball.

Honest Staff at Dynasty Hotel, Miri
I stayed at Dynasty Hotel in Miri (as in my previous post). Room 810 from 30th October to 3rd of November 2006. Well, I would like to expose of one honest housekeeping staff. The staff I would like to hightlight is “Faridah” if I am not wrong (as she told me). She was doing housekeeping on 31st Oct 2006.
This is what happen. I accidently left RM 550.00 on the desk and since it was hidden under the sheets of papers, I did not realise it when I left the room. Then when I came back to the room I found that I could not open the door. While I was trying to open, she emerge from another room where she was cleaning and told me that she asked the management to double lock my room because she saw the money while cleaning the room. At first I though it was the coins that I left on the side cabinet.
After the management came and open the door, I enter and found the RM 550 intact on the table Oh, Gosh. If she were to have taken the money, I wouldn’t know about it because I did not remember putting it there the previous night.
I would like to compliment her for her honesty and hope the hotel management will take that honesty into account for employee of the year award.
Besides the honest staff, I would like give a good grade for all the friendly staff right from the driver, bell boys, receptionist and even the Acting Hotel Manager whom I first met in 1997 when I first stayed there. I’ve stayed in many hotels in Malaysia and had never had the opportunity to talk to any managers.
Food?. If the hotel is not a 5 Star, I am giving the Rosita Cafe a 5 star rating for the delicious food served. Food is very tasty and all my colleague who were together, give the thumb up to the Chef (I think he is) who walks around during every meal time and thats a good practice. He can see the satisfied faces of guests and diners.
Well, if you are visiting Miri, I would recommend you staying there.
